Greetings 8th Grade Students and Parents!
My name is Mr. Hamilton and I’ll be teaching ELA for the 8th grade team this year. I’m extremely excited to start teaching this year and getting to know you all. Just to know a little about myself, this is my 15th year working in education and it is my 7th year at Hastings Middle School. Well actually… this is really my 10th year at HMS because I actually went to school here as student! I love working at the school that made me want to become a teacher at a young age. In my free time I like to play guitar, write, watch New England sports (even when years aren’t the best) and be outside.
In ELA we will be reading all genres of literature and do many different types of writing, from essays to poetry.
I believe that education can happen in three easy steps:
1. Safety- if students aren’t listening or misbehaving after constant redirection, the student and rest of the class can’t learn.
2. Learning – This is the most important thing after all! This step cannot happen if we aren’t safe though. This also means students must be prepared with all our materials and complete our work each day/night.
3. Fun – sometimes some lessons might not seem as fun as others, but we must learn the basics in order to use our information to play educational related games, or do really cool projects!
If we complete all these steps appropriately, we will have an awesome year. Below I have listed some materials that are needed in every 8th grade class.
2020-2021 HYBRID LEARNING
SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST GR. 6-8
*Please label all personal belongings.
*All students will receive an agenda book.
*Do Not bring everything to school. Just bring what you need for the day.
Required:
I can’t wait to get to know everyone better and really get the ball rolling this year. Parents, below I have left a contact form that you can tear off and have your child bring back tomorrow. E-mail is the fastest way of communication because here at HMS we do grading, attendance, and staff communication through it.
